New event location at the U.S. National Whitewater Center
Charlotte, N.C. - This Saturday, April 21st, everyone is invited to participate in the 5th Annual Thin Mint Sprint 1 Mile Fun Run and 5K at the U.S. National Whitewater Center. Run, walk or skip your way through the course while enjoying the great outdoors. Girl Scouts have been challenged to work throughout the year and log 23 miles prior to race day, then complete the 5K (3.1 miles) to earn their Marathon Patch. Participants will receive a T-Shirt, a snack and goodie bags sponsored by REI, Dick's Sporting Goods and Great Outdoor Provision Company. Girl Scouts will receive a participation patch.
The Thin Mint Sprint 5K Run/Walk is one way that Girl Scouts provides healthy living opportunities to the community. Considering the alarming trends of childhood obesity and Type 2 Diabetes diagnosed in youth, Girl Scouts, Hornets' Nest Council has made Healthy Living one of our four program focus areas and aims to change these outcomes for girls one step, one choice, one action at a time by providing healthy living opportunities and activities throughout the council. More than 60 badges and patches encourage girls to engage in a wide range of activities that teach them about developing healthy, everyday habits, from the importance of exercise and sleep, to good hygiene and eating habits, to developing healthy relationships with others.
