Girl Scout Cookie Season Begins

01.04.2013

Girl Scouts, Hornet's Nest Council kicks off the annual Cookie Program this week with 16,500 local Girl Scouts learning skills that will help today's girls develop into tomorrow's leaders. The largest girl-led business in the world teaches girls the skills essential to success and life, including goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills and business ethics.

A new season brings with it a newly redesigned cookie package. For the first time in more than a dozen years, the Girl Scout cookie box gets a makeover. The updated box tells the Girl Scout story, describes the value of Girl Scouting and engages with its 59 million alumnae.

Some say it's just a cookie, but there's more to Girl Scout Cookies than what's in the box. When community supporters purchase a box of Girl Scout cookies, they are sending a girl to camp, supplying a Journey book for her leadership experience or helping fund a community service project. Through our Cookies for the Troops Program, a box of cookies can cheer up a soldier serving our country overseas. "We are so thankful to have the support of our community and the opportunities that girls receive through the Cookie Program," said Sally Daley, CEO of Girl Scouts, Hornets' Nest Council, "With each purchase of Girl Scout Cookies, you are not just getting a delicious treat, you are helping girls to be future business leaders and to make a difference in their communities."

Girl Scout Cookies are now available in eight varieties: Thin Mints, Samoas, Do-Si-Dos, Tagalongs, Trefoils, Savannah Smiles, Thank You Berry Munch and Dulce De Leche. All varieties of Girl Scout Cookies are zero trans fat per serving, and the price for a box of cookies is only $4.

Beginning February 15, the most popular Girl Scout Cookies (Thin Mints, Samoas, Do-Si-Dos, Tagalongs, Trefoils & Savannah Smiles) will be sold at cookie booths outside of grocery stores and other retail venues. The Cookie Sale ends March 15. Find a Cookie Booth near you by downloading a free Cookie Locator app which lets you find cookies on sale close to you. Use your phone's GPS location to find cookies nearby, or find cookies by ZIP code, city, or state. You can map your way to a cookie booth or share results with friends.
