Outdoor Education Level 1: Be Safe, Be Ready
Be Safe, Be Ready was developed in 2009 by volunteer outdoor facilitators from Girl Scouts, Hornets Nest Council and the new Girl Scouts, Carolinas Peaks to Piedmont Council, and is now utilized by volunteers across western and central NC and York County, SC.
There are two sections of this course Outings & Overnights and Girl Planning. Both must be completed by an adult before taking a troop overnight at a site where all girls sleep together in an enclosed facility containing flush toilets, such as a POD, campsite lodge, sponsorship or leaders home. No fire building or outdoor cooking (fire or camp stove).
After submitting your test results for each section, you will be prompted to enter your name, e-mail address and select a service unit. Select Hornets Nest as your service unit. You must complete both sections of this course in order to receive credit.
You will need a SafetyWise book to complete the sections. New leaders receive this book at the Leader 101 course.
