Volunteers are the lifeblood of Girl Scouting.

Did you know that any adult, male or female, can be a Girl Scout? There are many ways to participate in the Girl Scout program and make a difference in the lives of young women ages 5-17.

Our volunteers make a difference... in the lives of girls, in the success of families, in the growth of communities. The strength of Girl Scouting rests squarely on the shoulders of adult volunteers who are committed to helping all girls develop into strong, confident, capable women.

Some employers will match a gift in relation to volunteer hours. If you are a volunteer, find out if your time and energy can be matched by your employer in the form of a gift donation! Click here for more information on matching gifts.

Why Volunteer?

  • To give back to the community by being a positive influence in girls' lives.
  • To benefit from multiple training opportunities and on-going skill development.
  • To gain professional experience, enhance resumes and expand reference contacts.
  • To grow personally from pushing inner limits and having new experiences.
  • To meet interesting people and develop life-long friends with common values.

Volunteer Commitment

In Girl Scouting, we realize that today's busy adult may not be able to make long-term volunteer commitments. That is why we offer flexible options to anyone interested in the development of young girls.

The time and energy an adult volunteer contributes can range from one-time involvement, to serving several hours a month being a district team member, to a few hours weekly as a troop leader or program event coordinator, to being a special troop volunteer conducting program activities at various times during the year.

Volunteer Training

Strong volunteer support systems are in place to ensure success. Hornets' Nest Council has training, manuals, and professional support staff to give volunteers all the tools necessary to be successful. From the first orientation session to the FYI program resource guide, and from Age Level training to the annual adult SKY retreat, adult volunteers are provided with the resources to make a difference in girls' lives.

Volunteer Opportunities

Men and women throughout our 8-county area volunteer in a number of different areas for a variety of reasons. For girls to benefit from Girl Scouting, they need the guidance of concerned, caring adults. Adults like you!

Girl Scouts is a volunteer organization that recognizes and respects adult volunteers of all ages and abilities. That guidance may be given by working directly with girls throughout the year, or it may be to lend expertise for a specific short-term project or event.

Whether it's once a week, once a month, or once a year, your efforts make a difference!
