Other Outdoor Enrichment & Facilitator Trainings


Archery Facilitator Certification – Girls 16+, Adults

Make archery possible for hundreds of Girl Scouts with the National Archery Association class where participants learn skills to instruct beginner level archery and receive a 3-year certification. After completion, participants are placed on the council archery facilitator roster. Contact OutdoorProgram@hngirlscouts.org for details.

 

Fundamentals of Canoeing – C, S, A, Adults

Learn basic skills to paddle a canoe and to rescue yourself and others. A swim test is required. Those with sufficient skills can work on the American Red Cross Fundamentals of Canoe card, requiring a written test and a canoe skills test. Work on the Small Craft Safety – Canoe card that, in conjunction with the FOC card, provides certification to take girls on flatwater canoe trips. Once trained, you’ll be placed on the council canoe facilitator list. Contact OutdoorProgram@hngirlscouts.org for details.

 

Fundamentals of Kayaking – S, A, Adults

This course is for participants who have completed Fundamentals of Canoeing. Adults with Small Craft Safety – Canoe certification will also work on Small Craft Safety – Kayak certification during this class. Contact OutdoorProgram@hngirlscouts.org for details.

 

Group Rescue Initiative Facilitator Training – Adults 

After completing this course, trained adults can help facilitate groups on the Group Rescue Initiative Course, a series of connected cooperation course elements. Groups must solve a variety of challenges while traversing the elements. Once trained, volunteers will be placed on the council Group Rescue Facilitator roster. Contact OutdoorProgram@hngirlscouts.org for details.

Low Challenge Course Facilitator Training – Adults 

After completing this course, trained adults can assist with facilitating groups on GSHNC Cooperation Courses. Once trained, volunteers will be placed on the council Cooperation Course Facilitator roster. Contact OutdoorProgram@hngirlscouts.org for details.

 

Phoenix Tower Facilitator Training – Adults 

Participants will develop technical skills to run activities on the 55 ft. Phoenix Tower. This outdoor program has a variety of activities and climbing routes to challenge all climbers. Once trained, volunteers will be placed on the council Phoenix Tower facilitator roster. Contact OutdoorProgram@hngirlscouts.org for details.

 

The SKY’s the Limit Adult Retreat – Adults 

SKY is a fun-filled weekend for adult volunteers to explore camp, reconnect with friends, make new friends and learn activities to take back to Girl Scouts. Don’t miss out on this weekend of nonstop fun!

Many activity sessions are offered, including Program Classes (Highest Awards), Phoenix Tower, Cooperation Course, Archery, Canoe, Group Rescue, and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math).
