Booth Sales Begin Friday, Feb. 9

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Feb. 8, 2018) – While temperatures are low in the Girl Scouts Hornets’ Nest Council’s eight-county footprint, cookie season is heating up with booth sales beginning Friday, Feb. 9.

The classic flavors loved by generations including best sellers Thin Mints, Samaos and Tagalongs will be available at cookie booths in front of retail stores, grocery stores and other local businesses.

“The Girl Scouts have more than 300 booth locations including area malls and exhibitions, Dunkin Donuts, Food Lion, Great Clips, Harris Teeter, Lowe’s Home Improvement, Sonny’s BBQ, and Walmart that will be selling cookies until March 3,” said Angela Woods, CEO of the Hornets’ Nest Council. “We are grateful for the opportunity to groom tomorrow’s business leaders.”

While selling these tasty treats, young female entrepreneurs learn essential business skills like goal setting, decision making and business ethics.

By earning badges such as the financial literacy badge and cookie business badge, Girl Scouts are challenged to learn and integrate these skills in the cookie-selling process.

The financial literacy badge called “Money Manager” requires girls to learn how to manage money, make change and more. Correspondingly, the cookie business badge encourages girls to identify and engage potential customers and create positive cookie-buying experiences.

"I always meet so many new people at our cookie booths, and I've also learned so much about money management," said Girl Scout Lilly Jarrett. "I've gotten good at having conversations with our customers about how we use every cookie season to reach our goals and do great things."

Buying delicious Girl Scout cookies fuels new, unique and amazing experiences for girls - experiences that broaden their worlds, help them learn essential life skills and prepare them to practice a lifetime of leadership.

Girl Scout cookies are available until March 3. To locate a booth nearby, visit the Girl Scouts’ cookie locator at http://www.girlscouts.org/en/cookies/all-about-cookies.html.  A list of locations, hours and addresses are provided to direct one easily to the irresistible cookie flavors.
