“Every girl, everywhere can participate in the premiere leadership experience.”

In partnership with community leaders, we forge paths for future leaders. By providing a variety of program opportunities for girls, they are exposed to potential careers and experiences that serve as stepping stones to a brighter future.

Girls Go Beyond

Committed to ensuring that every girl everywhere can participate in the premiere leadership experience, we seek to reflect the community we serve. In addition to traditional troops, our outreach program increases participation amongst girls in at-risk environments, rural communities or underserved and emerging populations. Reaching nearly 3,000 annually, Girls Go Beyond serves girls who would otherwise not be able to enjoy Girl Scouting.

Power of Girls

Power of Girls fosters leadership and self-esteem training for middle school girls by developing 7th graders who are not outperforming or underperforming, who may not be involved in extracurricular activities and are more likely to “fall between the cracks.” Participants are selected by principals, teachers and counselors who identify girls that need a positive influence and will benefit from the Girl Scout Leadership Experience.

Latina Initiative

Compared to other girls in the US, Latinas have the highest high school dropout rate at 17%. Due to the growth of the Latina population in our eight county footprint, we are at a critical juncture and Girl Scouts, Hornets’ Nest Council is uniquely positioned to fulfill this pressing community need. Designed to engage Latinas in developing skills, our Latina Initiative improves girls’ future leadership development. Our goal is to create meaningful relationships with organizations to increase awareness of the benefits of Girl Scouting. In turn, we hope to increase Latina membership amongst girls and volunteers.

Summer Camp

Camping, an integral part of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, is especially needed now as girls are tied to technology and indoor activities. Girl Scouts gives girls the opportunity to experience environmental leadership and stewardship. Located in Statesville, NC, our 700+ acre camp, the Dale Earnhardt Environmental Leadership Campus at Oak Springs, allows girls to get outdoors, try new things and overcome fears by conquering our 55 foot Phoenix Tower. While many girls get to enjoy the outdoors, girls from a lower socioeconomic status are less likely to experience camp without aid from funding partners who help make this dream a reality. By providing camp support for all girls, adventures are endless.

Highest Awards

Bronze. Silver. Gold. These represent the highest honors a Girl Scout can earn as she works on an issue that has captured her heart. Whether she’s planting a community garden to inspire healthy living, advocating for animal rights, or building a network to encourage girls to become scientists, she’ll inspire others (and herself). As a girl earns one of Girl Scout’s highest awards, she changes her corner of the world – and beyond.
