Brownies

We’ve got it all together!

(Grades 2-3)

Brownies is where things come together. Girls begin to shape their own adventures, grow through hands-on experiences and come together as a team. In second or third grade, Brownies learn about themselves, their families, friends and the world around them through fun projects and activities.

Brownies earn patches for learning new things, complete leadership journeys, explore fun and interesting places, and take part in the cookie and the fall product programs. Brownies can grow through activities that emphasize fun and friendship! Learn more about upcoming events and programs for your Girl Scout Brownie.

Journeys

Brownies build self-awareness and interaction with each other and the outside world through a choice of three Journey books.

  • Brownie Quest takes girls on a journey to solve mysteries! Each trail takes them on adventures with a Brownie elf for company. They’ll love this journey where paths connect with new friends!
  • WOW! Wonders of Water helps Brownies begin a journey covering three-fourths of the planet! Water is their friend, but it also needs their care and protection. This is a journey full of delight and wonder!
  • A World Of Girls is a journey of storytelling that helps girls bring out their best selves. It’s about helping to make the world a better place through positive change. Let’s go!

Uniforms and Badges

Girl Scout Brownies display their troop number, awards and badges on their traditional Brownie vests or sashes. The Girl’s Guide To Girl Scouting comes with a detailed diagram showing where to place badges on vests or sashes.

Badges & Awards

Girl Scout leaders are equipped with an awards log that details every award or patch available for Brownies. Leaders will also see how awards progress at every level, helping girls build skills throughout their Girl Scout experience.

  • With Badge Explorer, girls have an opportunity to choose their own topic or skill and design their own badges.
  • The National Leadership planner shows girls and their families the complete leadership program and awards for Brownies.

Awards Along The Quest builds from the Brownie Quest journey, connecting nine keys to leadership in a meaningful experience along a map of awareness and discovery.

Four Leadership Awards can be earned through A World Of Girls journey, to extend storytelling into achievement steps!

Projects & Trips

Brownies engage in Take Action projects and Community Service projects.

  • Community Service projects are always done in a spirit of pitching in to help out with a problem in our community “right now.” They come from the heart.
  • Take Action projects are about helping girls understand the root causes of a problem, investigating possible solutions, networking with experts, and putting a plan in motion. A Take Action project is necessary to complete a Journey.

Brownie trips often take place in local nature areas as well as cultural resources including natural history museums, public parks, gardens and zoos. Girls are always prepared and they leave no trace behind! Looking for Brownie trip ideas? Click here to learn more.
