Flood Relief for Columbia and Surrounding Areas
Thank you to everyone who has reached out to help our Girl Scout family members. And for those who have been affected by this heartbreaking situation we are putting a plan in place to help provide some relief. Our council is responding to the devastation and hardship caused by the unprecedented rainfall and resulting flooding in Columbia and surrounding area by conducting a supplies drive. We have 4,700 members in the affected area. Our first priority is to provide supplies to those in distress in our Girl Scout family. Additional supplies can be donated to the Red Cross.
Needed supplies are:
• water bottles (individually packaged or gallons)
• canned goods and packaged snacks
• new socks, blankets, pillows, clothing
• toiletries and wet wipes
• baby items and toys
• plastic containers
• paper towels
• any other helpful items
• gift cards to Target and Wal-Mart
Collection centers are now open at the Spartanburg and Greenville Service Centers. A distribution plan is being finalized that will deliver items to the Columbia area by Thursday morning and as often as is needed after that. We appreciate the support of our partner, Carey Moving and Storage, by donating the collection trucks and drivers to Columbia.
For other Girl Scout councils offering assistance, we are asking that those in proximity bring supplies to one of the two collection centers. For others, please make donations to the Red Cross.
