Membership Year 2025 Update
We are using a waitlist system for the free adult trainings; this will ensure we are able to serve volunteers from across our council with the trainings that have limited capacities in an equitable manner. There are 10 spots available for this training. Depending on the facilitator requirements for the specific activity, one or two volunteers per service unit will be assigned spots in the class. If there are any spots left over, we will draw names from those on the waitlist to fill out the roster 3 weeks before the training date.
Training Information
This training is a combination of the Outdoor Learning Path - Primitive Camping Level 4 and Backpacking Level 5.
In this Primitive Camping and Backpacking training, you will learn health and safety procedures for a Girl Scout camping trip to an established front-country/back-country site. There will be focus on how to make planning and execution of the trip girl-led.
The course will teach low-impact camping procedures including
proper site set-up, water purification methods, hiking, campsite use
and clean up, appropriate clothing and equipment, cooking, and how to
establish, maintain and close-up a personal cathole and group
latrine.
This is an overnight, advanced camping course. You must complete Outdoor Learning Path Levels 1-3 training prior to attending this class.
Upon completion of this course, you will be qualified to lead Girl Scout camping trips at primitive campsites less than a 20-minute hike from the point-of-origin. (Campsite may or may not have potable water or latrines.)
