Financial Assistance | Girl Scouts

Girl Scouting is for all girls.

At Girl Scouts, Hornets' Nest Council, we believe that Girl Scouting is for all girls, regardless of socioeconomic status. To help remove financial barriers, our council offers limited funds to help members who would otherwise be unable to join in Girl Scout activities without financial support.

Financial assistance is not a primary source of funding for members or troops. Troops are encouraged to facilitate girl-led financial planning for their activities. Financial assistance funds are supported by Troop Money Earn Activities, Treats and Reads (Fall Product Program), and the Girl Scout Cookie Program.

How does the financial assistance process work? toggle arrow

Our funding is primarily focused on providing financial assistance to girls. However, we do offer financial assistance to adult volunteers serving in key volunteer roles that directly benefit girls, including:

Troop Leader or Troop Co-Leader
Troop Cookie Manager
Troop Fall Product Manager
Troop Treasurer
Juliette Mentor
Key Service Unit Volunteer

Please note that Troop Volunteer—which is a generalized position—does not qualify for financial assistance. Financial assistance is only approved for adults with the above specific volunteer roles and responsibilities

The Process
To request financial assistance, simply click Request Financial Aid on the registration screen or the yearly renewal screen.

Within 5 business days of your request, we will email you a link to the Financial Assistance Request Form. Submission of the form is required for your membership registration to be completed.

You will receive an email for each individual for whom you have requested assistance. Make sure to complete a request form for each individual.

Membership spots are unable to be held, so you should complete your form as soon as possible. If not complete within 30 days, we will remove the application for Membership.

We do ask families to make any contribution they are comfortable with toward registration costs. This allows us to stretch our limited resources further and provide assistance to more families. However, please do not contribute if this would put a burden on your family or prevent participation in Girl Scouting.

Within 3-5 business days of completing the request form, you will receive an email with valuable information, including coupon codes that can be used for uniforms, books, and GSHNC sponsored events. Please keep an eye out for this email and store it in a secure place, since you will use the information from that email throughout the year.

When families, troops, friends, and neighbors contribute to Sister to Sister, they help provide financial assistance, fund enriching programs and events, and reduce barriers for girls and volunteers across our community.

What is Sister to Sister?

Sister to Sister is a council-wide giving campaign that empowers Girl Scout families to support one another. It's an opportunity for our Girl Scout community to come together in the spirit of sisterhood and give back—ensuring that every girl, regardless of her financial situation, can join and thrive in Girl Scouts.

What Do Donations Support?

Your gift to Sister to Sister helps:

Provide financial assistance for members
Lower the cost of council-run programs and events
Offset training fees for adult volunteers (such as First Aid and CPR for troop leaders)
