Every girl has a story. Every girl has a voice. And every voice deserves to be heard!
Celebrate International Day of the Girl with an inspiring two-day experience filled with creativity, confidence, connection, and fun. In partnership with Emmy Award-winning poet Boris "Bluz" Rogers, Director of Creative Engagement for Blumenthal Performing Arts and Slam Master and Coach of SlamCharlotte, Girl Scouts will discover how poetry and spoken word can inspire confidence, build leadership, and create change.
Working alongside Boris and other talented poets, artists, and facilitators, Girl Scouts will dive into engaging writing activities, interactive discussions, creative challenges, and performance coaching designed to help them express their thoughts, dreams, and ideas with confidence. They'll write original poems, encourage one another, and discover that their words have the power to inspire, lead, and make a difference.
Throughout the workshop, girls will explore the meaning of International Day of the Girl while learning about the challenges and triumphs of girls both in Charlotte and around the world. They'll reflect on topics like education, safety, leadership, equality, and opportunity, while discovering how their own voices can help shape a brighter future for their schools, communities, and beyond.
Whether imagining themselves speaking before the Charlotte City Council, advocating at the United Nations, or simply sharing their story with the world, girls will be reminded that leadership begins with having the courage to use their voice.
Program Schedule
Day 1 (Saturday, October 10, 2026) 9:00 AM-3:00 PM - Poetry Writing Workshop
Girl Scouts will spend the day exploring poetry, storytelling, and spoken word through interactive activities, writing prompts, and performance coaching. By the end of the day, each participant will have written and refined an original poem while building confidence and discovering the power of her voice.
Day 2 (Sunday, October 11, 2026) 3:30-5:00 PM - Voices of the Girl Poetry Showcase
Family, friends, volunteers, and community members are invited to join us for an inspiring afternoon as Girl Scouts take the stage to perform their original poems. Come clap, cheer, and celebrate the creativity, courage, confidence, and leadership of every girl as we close the experience with an unforgettable showcase of spoken word, empowerment, and sisterhood.
Together, we'll celebrate the power of girls, the strength of their voices, and the limitless possibilities that begin when they dare to speak up.

Program Refund Policy

Full Refund: Cancellations made at least 14 days before the program date will receive a full refund.

Partial Refund: Cancellations made between 7-13 days before the program date will receive a 50% refund.

No Refund: Cancellations made less than 7 days before the program date, or failure to attend the program, are not eligible for a refund.

Medical or Emergency Exceptions: Refunds may be granted for documented medical reasons or family emergencies at the discretion of the Program Department.

Council Cancellations: If the council cancels a program due to low registration, weather, or unforeseen circumstances, Girl Scouts will receive a full refund.
Refunds will be processed back to the original form of payment within 1-2 weeks of approval.
