The Outdoor Learning Path includes each of the three required levels for volunteers to take Girl Scouts on a camping experience. This hands-on training prepares adults how to teach Girl Scouts the intricacies of managing a campsite at an established site. You will learn to teach Girl Scouts how to safely use outdoor tools, strike and use matches, light wood fires and propane stoves, safely use knives, set up camp, set up tents, prepare for sleeping in the outdoors, and complete all the meal preparation and clean-up. This training is good for 5 years and may be renewed on gsLearn by taking the "GSHNC Outdoor Learning Path (Levels 1-3) Recertification Test".
Both online Outdoor Learning Path Levels 1 & 2 trainings in gsLearn are required to complete before the in-person (Level 3) training. One week prior to the training date, you will receive a confirmation email with a packing list and the weekend's meal plan. Meals are included for the weekend, which participants will cook themselves as part of the training (we can accommodate most dietary restrictions). Please note that you are required to bring your own sleeping gear, but may borrow a tent.
*GSHNC volunteer trainings are adult, member-only, and council-only, events. Children of attendees may not accompany adults to this training, please ensure alternate arrangements have been made.
